Way back (in Dave&Cecile VH's living room) in 2009, when I conceived of HomerU, "Schooling supported by shopping," I set out to find businesses where we families already like to shop-- businesses which might benefit from our recommendations, might gladly offer discounts to our community, and might even help support the many teachers among us. If we families could use the website to share those favorite businesses with each other, and if the businesses could pay us to advertise on HomerU, then the teachers could use the money raised to eventually make their classes free to the families who made the recommendations.
That was the idea. Putting the idea into practice, however, was amounting to a job in itself, beyond teaching. The "Schooling" itself was working; and sharing our follow-up work (on the HomerU Forum after each week's "schooling") was working; but coming up with a handy way for our members to take advantage of exclusive offers (e.g. via self-printed coupons) was not working, until...
I met a teacher/businessman who said that the tool that I was trying to invent was "already here... in use, in Milwaukee, and even growing beyond...".
It's called The Cash Coupon, and it does indeed save the shopper, help the businesses, and pay the family that recommends new businesses onto that site.
So now-- without needing to re-invent the wheel-- all HomerU members can save more money than the classes cost. As families & teachers become familiar with how this works, we can simply replace the cost/income of "tuition" with membership to The Cash Coupon. If families get their membership through their children's teacher, then everyone will benefit more than if we keep charging individually per student, per class or per semester...
If television & internet can be made free through advertising, so can education.
Current & future HomerU families, teachers & even (high-school & college) students, please consider replacing money as our means of working together. Please consider The Cash Coupon. At least we can all benefit as customers, paying for coupon credits instead of classes. And if you'd like to know how we could benefit as collaborators, selling those credits to others and getting rewarded for signing up our favorite businesses, please email my wife, Grace: gwaciegweason@gmail.com.
